TitleTeaching Care: Addressing Core Nursing Competencies through Engaging Students with Ready-made Black Nursing History Lessons

Presenter: Gwyneth Franck, PhD, RN, MPH

Description: During this webinar, you will explore the Teaching Care curriculum, a series of eight lesson plans mapped to the AACN Essentials that use the history of Black Nurses to teach core nursing competencies and associated sub-competency progression indicators. You will receive an overview of each lesson with guidance on how to adapt the lessons for integration into pre-existing undergraduate and graduate nursing courses. You will also engage in a sample activity together to experience the value of using history as a learning resource and tool.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the effectiveness of the Teaching Care curriculum to integrate nursing history and address core nursing competencies in nursing education curricula.
  2. Select a Teaching Care lesson to use in a pre-existing course based on identified themes and nursing competencies. 
  3. Describe the value of engaging students with diverse nursing healthcare history using primary and secondary historical sources to teach students core nursing competencies.

Cost: $30 Members; $55 Non-members

Participants will earn two nursing contact hours.
