AAHN Members Present at SAHMS

Three AAHN members presented papers at the 2020 Southern Association for the History of Medicine and Science in New Orleans March 6-7 at the Ochsner Medical Center. Eileen Thrower presented her work and collaborative work with colleagues:

 

• Marylou Carr and Eileen Thrower, How Far We Have Come: Voices of Midwifery
•  Eileen Thrower, “The Most Powerful Lobby In Washington”: Healthcare Advocacy and the Midwifery Profession as Evidenced in Early 20th Century Georgia
•  Eileen Thrower and Charlotte Swint, Wide Neighborhoods, Small Communities: An Analysis of Midwifery in the Rural Southeastern United States in the Early Twentieth Century Through the Careers of Mary Breckinridge and Margaret Charles Smith

Building on an earlier publication in JOGNN, Melissa Sherrod presented her paper titled: Birth Experience, Caesarean Deliveries and Institutional Racism

Mary Gibson presented new biographical work on Virginia nurse, Agnes Dillon Randolph in her paper: Nurse, Supervise and Educate: Agnes Dillion Randolph’s contribution to nursing and Tuberculosis care in Virginia.
