Nurse historian Michelle Hehman, chief nurse scientist at Nursing Science Partners and associate editor of Nursing History Review, and UVA Professor Emerita Arlene Keeling, a past director of the Bjoring Center, discuss their new book, The Nurses of Ellis Island: Life and Work Inside the Golden Door (Texas Christian University Press: 2024), which tells the story of the history of nursing in Ellis Island hospitals from 1892 to 1954. The authors will provide a “behind the scenes” discussion on the research and writing process as well as an overview of nursing on the Island.
